Inspiration Board
Ever since Pinterest started taking off, the concept of vision boards have become common place. I used to think of vision boards in terms of a design or layout concept. I have made vision boards of my own for home décor and wall colors. Recently, I started reading about the benefits of inspiration or vision boards for personal use. The idea of being creative and collecting ideas and inspiration was appealing and has inspired me to collect quotes and motivational posts on my FaceBook page. I decided to give it a try to see what I would come up with for an inspirational board for the month of April. Here is what I discovered:
I am more creative than I realized. I often feel inspired to “create” something, but lack a reason or means to accomplish this goal. By sitting down with a pile of magazines, I began looking for words, pictures, and ideas that resonated with me. I realized that in part due to the way my mind works, I was seeking out anything with a positive nature or image. Once I had a theme, the creativity kept flowing!
Sitting down with art supplies, scissors and magazines was a nice distraction. I often get sucked in to various electronic distractions - usually in the form of Twitter or FaceBook. This is not necessarily a bad thing on its own, but I find that I get lost in swiping through pictures and posts that are often negative in nature. To shift my thinking to seeking out positive and inspiration ideas, I started to find more and more things that I wanted to save or capture on the board.
This could be a fun bonding activity. I solicited the help of my son, Tyler to help me cut out pictures and he realized pretty quickly that this was a fun activity and wanted to create his own board. We shared magazine clippings and laughed over the pictures of dogs and animals doing silly things that we discovered. Before I knew it, 90 minutes had passed and we were sharing our findings and helping each other decide were to paste our clippings.
By the time my project was complete, I was pretty darn pleased with myself! It would be fun to see if any of these concepts come to fruition over the next few months!
